Welcome to my new blog Speckheim, read about my story here!

For those of you who don’t speak German and are confused it quite literally means ‘bacon home/house’. Why the name Speckheim, well because it does not get more German than this. Most of you will be associating German food with; high-carb, high-protein, flavour rich dishes, especially when it comes to pork, and you couldn’t be more right. This blog has been created not to duplicate the other one hundred German food blogs, but to create ‘Bavarian food with a twist’.
As a German, food has always been a big part of my life, however being Bavarian has only intensified this passion. Bavaria is the largest county in Germany and lays on the border of Austria. We host the biggest bear drinking festival ‘Oktoberfest’ every year in September (not October!). Most importantly we love our traditions and are very proud to be Bavarian. If you ask someone from the north, they will tell you that us Bavarians are a nation of our own.
Anyway, despite my departure from my beloved home in 2013 to go on my now already 5- year adventure in the UK, I have decided it is time to tell my story and share my favourite dishes from Bavaria. As mentioned I will add a South English twist to a range of classic Bavarian dishes.
German and British food are actually very alike; we all love our meat and potato heavy dishes. It would take days and endless pints to settle whose food is better, so why not just mix them. That’s exactly the plan for Speckheim.
Any native living outside of Germany would tell you that they miss everything about our food – starting from our glorious lager all the way to the sausages we have! I certainly do! I have found lots of great substitutions, but nothing’s quite like home. I have decided that I am not willing to substitute anymore of it but start creating my own food.
If you are interested in the food I love and want to join me on an adventure which is going to be full of experiences, great dishes and recipes, then please follow me on the journey I am about to embark on. I will be posting all my cooking tutorials on my YouTube channel Speckheim, engaging with you all on my Instagram ‘SpeckHeim’ and follow up on anything on this blog.
I am excited, and I hope you will be once I start cooking
Yours,
Speckheim
